Salam to all,
So happy to see my students could answer questions of Partnership And Company Law last night. Anyway, when l was about to leave my room for my next class this morning, l received a phone call from one student who did not sit for the said test last night. Her excuse was that she did not know that the venue had been changed as she did not attend the lecture yesterday and she was not informed by her friends about the change of the venue. She went to the wrong class and she waited for 10 minutes before she thought that the test might be cancelled!
She was wrong. I just could not accept the fact on why she did not even bother to ask her friends from 12 noon until 8 pm yesterday regarding the venue as l did mention that l would confirm the venue yesterday as l needed to check the availability of the venue first? Why she did not sms to her friends asking about the venue? If she could attend last night test ( l did not whether she did come or not as there was no witness around to see her that night ). Why she went straight to her room after waiting for 10 minutes? The test started at 8.30 p.m.? Why she did not check few halls around? Why she did not ask the representative of her class as l did appoint one representative for each class for any students' reference? It appears to me that she could not answer my questions and she was broken into tears. ( Sorry, l did not buy that!It make me more angry!)
To my dismay, she wanted to sit for the test at 10 am this morning without referring to my timetable that l am having class at that time. She even left a note in front of my room in that morning , asking me to send her sms whether she could see me at 4 p.m. to sit for the test without asking me in the first place whether she is eligible to sit for the test or not?
From the way she talked, it appears to me that she really did not ready for the test. When she knew from others that many could perform the test, she wanted to do the same at her own appropriate time. Without thinking that l am also have another tasks , besides teaching like writing, preparing research and marking hundreds of answer's scripts tests in which most of the time, l continue at home due to time constraint and many students came during my consultation hours.
So, integrity plays an important role here. Do not make a fool of your lecturers. They are smart enough to identify that you are not ready and are taking advantage of their kindness and sweet face! Of course, l have discretion, but if you take it for granted you will be in trouble. Expecting me to follow as you wish and suit to your schedule is not an appropriate thing to do.In fact, it is the worst thing to do and tarnish your image in front of your lecturer's perception.
The bottomline is :
Be accountable in whatever we do is another important lesson l want you to digest here. If you intend to skip test for no apparent reason ( unlike appropriate cases like having an MC or have another emergency cases like death or accident that's acceptable), other that that all excuses are lame excuses. She has learned from her mistake. Please do not repeat the same mistake. Also, it applicable to everyone too as a reminder.
For those who think that l did not mean what l have said.Well,I can see students who are hardworking and those who just want to have fun and take my words for granted. I have proved her wrong!Want to test my patience, anyone! You will be sorry. So, do not ever make an attempt whatsoever.
Anyway, thank you for reading my long winded story!
Take care and enjoy your holidays.
Do not forget to do your revision!
